How you will make an impact

As Packaging Director, you will lead and set the strategic direction for Arla’s packaging development function, managing a high-performing team of senior specialists across Europe. You will deliver innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions that support Arla’s growth ambitions and sustainability goals. In this key role, you will act as Arla’s leading authority on packaging, ensuring we stay ahead of industry trends and technological advancements.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Developing and executing Arla’s long-term packaging strategy in line with corporate innovation, sustainability, and commercial objectives
• Leading, inspiring, and developing a diverse cross-functional team across multiple European locations
• Driving packaging innovation projects from concept to market, ensuring speed, efficiency, and commercial viability
• Leading Arla’s sustainable packaging agenda, including reduction of plastics, introduction of circular materials, and improving recyclability
• Managing packaging budgets, resources, and external supplier relationships

What will make you successful

You bring at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience within packaging development, engineering, or R&D—ideally in food, beverage, dairy, or FMCG sectors. Your proven track record includes leading multi-site and international teams, deep expertise in packaging materials and sustainability standards, and navigating complex regulatory environments.

To succeed, you likely have:

• Minimum 10 years’ leadership experience in packaging development or related fields
• Advanced knowledge of packaging materials, production technologies, and cost optimization
• Strong experience in regulatory compliance (especially food contact materials and European packaging directives)
• Familiarity with sustainability frameworks such as EPR, LCA, and ESG reporting
• A degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (MBA or executive education is an advantage)
• Fluency in English; other European languages, especially Scandinavian, are a plus
