Laboratory Technician (6 month Maternity Cover) - Aylesbury

Then you now have the opportunity to become our new Laboratory Technician in the QEHS team at Arla Foods Aylesbury site. You will play a key part in the site QEHS team in ensuring that the products we pack onsite are done to the highest standards of food safety and quality.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

To monitor the Laboratory quality system compliance and effectiveness through planned audits and independent process control checks to ensure that our products comply with food safety legislation, meet the technical and quality specification and are manufactured at best cost.  To ensure customer expectations are met and exceeded at every level.

 

JOB CONTEXT:

Reporting directly to Technical team leader for day to day operations, working alongside factory colleagues and key disciplines i.e. EHS/production/process/despatch, etc ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

As a member of the QEHS team you will be expected to lead by example.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Verification and collation of all laboratory paperwork
  • Ensuring all tasks are completed daily/weekly/ monthly by the lab team
  • Ensuring adherence to the Minimum testing schedule,
  • Control of the Non-conformance data base
  • Feeding back specific critical issues raised from paperwork relating to the lab
  • Carry out CLAS audits in the appropriate manner, record NCR’s in the appropriate NCR log and follow up on corrective actions to improve the lab systems
  • Provision of appropriate certificates of analysis/conformance from suppliers (Big milk powder CoA for each batch)
  • Controlling Stock and Ordering routine items
  • Control Training Matrix and ensure that all trainings are up to date
  • Ensure that all Laboratory Documents are up to date
  • Ensure compliance against laboratory standards and procedures
  • Liaison with external laboratory if required
  • Ensure that products are tested for nutritional and annual shelf life verification
  • React to any OOS result from the Subcontracted lab by organising any re-test required
  • To collect extra samples/swabs if required
  • To ensure (in liaison with the Technical team leader or Process team leader) all validation/verification is done according to the schedule
  • Ensure that all external results are available in Lab data base
  • Ensure that all weekly/monthly reports are up to date
  • To assist the Technical Team leader with organising appropriate cover for the lab in case of sickness, holidays, etc.
  • To work closely with the lab to keep developing standard ways of working
  • To ensure all process confirmations in the lab are carried out in a timely manner (T-Cards, 5S)
  • Be responsible for the Pest Control System (in liaison with the Technical team leader)

 

Based in the laboratory, some of the key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Communicate and report results to relevant department
  • Ensure correct use of defined company standards and procedures
  • Ensure instrumentation is functioning and calibrated and that verified methods are used
  • Equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Ordering, distribution and management of consumables
  • Samples management
  • Carry out and manage internal microbiology analyses such as Hygiene samples, Product samples, Media preparation, Plating and Results recording
  • Cleaning and maintenance of Micro Lab area
  • Training and supporting operators who use Satellite Labs
  • Extract data and manage reporting in Quality Management System and Analytical Equipment Software
  • Manage non–conformance reports and monitor outstanding results
  • Ability to work to a rotated shift pattern (12h shift)

 

The role will involve working Monday – Friday (40h week contract)

Candidates must have a positive, organised and resilient approach to all aspects of their work and be able to maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and external stakes holders.

Strong attention to detail is required and good IT skills with any exposure to SAP would be an advantage.

 

Key qualifications for the role:

  • Science degree of equivalent
  • Food Safety Level 2
  • Food Hygiene Level 2
  • Internal Auditor (preferable)
